A message to parents of “I’m bored” kids
Do your kids sometimes say “I’m bored” as the school vacation that was eagerly awaited at the beginning of summer, now seems less exciting?
The youth leaders here at ABC have some news that may be your solution to the “I’m bored” problem.
“Captain” Becky and her “first mate” Pam Miller are having a Vacation Bible School preview for all kids in the community, for 4 year olds through 6th grade at the Glenna Droscha Park at 6:30 PM on July 24.
You will be able to preview the VBS materials, The Pirates That Didn’t Do Anything by the Veggie Tales. You can find out about the great Bible adventures the kids will be having as the pirates take off for the high seas.
We hope to see you and your kids at the park on Thursday July 24 at 6:30 PM. Be sure to stop by “Jolly Joe’s” in the park, where you will find plenty of hot dogs to eat.
American Independence
John Adams, who became America’s second president, was so elated when the United States was about to celebrate independence from England that he wrote:
“It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God
Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns bells,
bon fires and illumi nations from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward,
forevermore.”
Newsflash
A report just received from The “Chawin Gumm Sangers Choir:” The date for the presentation of the musical drama “Barn Party” is set for Thursday evening September 11, 2008
Reserve the date as a special time for you and your family to enjoy a fun filled evening of old fashioned Gaither-type sing-along with lots of good gospel music.
Our Awesome God
When our lives are focused on God, awe and wonder lead us to worship God, filling our inner being with a fullness we would never have thought possible. Awe prepares the way in us for the power of God to transform us, and this transformation of our inner attitudes can only take place when awe leads us in turn to wonder, admiration, reverence, surrender and obedience toward God.
---James Houston, The Transforming Power of Prayer
Interesting Nonsense
It was the accepted practice in Babylon 4,000 years ago that for a month after the wedding, the bride’s father would supply his son-in-law with all the mead he could drink. Mead is a honey beer and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the honey month, which we know today as the honeymoon.
