I have a prediction if you care to listen. Drum roll please, envelope please, here it is:
gasoline at $4.50 per gallon by July 4. That’s right, we will see unleaded regular at $4.50
between now and July 4. And what do I base it on? No pain yet. Sure people complain
and don’t like it, but by and large people are not yet feeling the pain of high gas prices.
I have an indicator that I use as the personal high gas price index. When I drive a short distance everyday
on the freeway I go 60 MPH. My three cylinders of engine can’t take much more than 60 MPH. When people
are enjoying low gas prices the cars just fly by me. It’s almost scary how fast they come up on me from
behind. Right now they aren’t coming up on me in a scary way but they do come up from behind with pretty
good authority. Let’s say they are not moving at 75 or 80 MPH, but they are very consistently going by at 70 MPH.
Now we all know that 45 MPH is the optimal speed for the best mileage per gallon. If one goes faster one
gets less bang for the buck in terms of what it costs to operate the car for gasoline usage. I have found that
on those rare occasions when gas gets astronomically high the cars just creep by me or go at my slow
speed. And I believe the next high price to get that affect will be $4.50 per gallon.
Will I be right? Probably not. I don’t do well in making future predictions but I know who does. One
predictor He made was “destroy this temple and in three days I will rebuild it.” He was talking about his body
and He did it. They crucified Him and three days later He came back to life as the Savior of the world. I want
to encourage you again to read one of the first four books of the New Testament as we move toward Easter
and as we get close to that Sunday pray and meditate on His death, burial, and resurrection. And as you
read observe this: He never missed on a single prediction.
God bless,
See you Sunday
